September 27 and 28th Pascal Stansfield and Patrick Jensen of Freedom Artists, Skylar Peak and John Hildebrand of Sicky Dicky Productions, Josh Morgan of Duke's Malibu, Seumas Santoro of Podium Distribution, Jordan Tappis of BrosList, Jason Rouse of Malibu Magazine, and myself Brandon Richards along with Chris Duffy, and Blake Richards of Val Surf present "The 2nd Annual Malibu Invitational" to benefit young Point Dume Surfer Lyon Herron beat his fight with Gardner's Syndrome.
The time is near. We are penciled in on the city calendar for the dates of September 27th and 28th. We are in the process of pulling all of the permits and getting the insurance situated this week so as of now this is the weekend 4 Lyon.
"The Malibu Invitational" was born by a consortium of determined friends with one common goal, Help Lyon. Lyon is that kid on the beach that always has a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face; regardless of any pain or concern he is dealing with on any one given day. He has been heroically battling a rare genetic disease called Gardner's Syndrome for the past twelve years. The latest challenges are his fight against several desmoid tumors in his abdomen. Pascal, Skylar, and Myself saw him on the beach Saturday; he walked up to us, lifted up his hoody, and showed us his latest wounds from his surgery the day before. All three of us swallowed loudly and asked how he was doing; he simply said "I can't surf for 4 weeks, crappy!" Spoken like a true grom!
The goal and premise of "The Malibu Invitational" has always been and will always be for Lyon as we look forward to the 45th Annual Malibu Invitational benefiting Point Dume Legend Surfer Lyon Herron.
This weekend 4 Lyon will be very similar to last years weekend with a Welcoming Ceremony at Duke's Malibu on Friday Night, Opening Ceremony Wave Ridden By Lyon Herron To Kick Off The Contest Saturday Morning Before The 1st Heat Goes Out, Saturday Night Event/Concert (Location/Event To Be Determined), Sunday Contest Semi's and Finals, and Closing/Award Ceremony on The Beach. The Surf Contest will include (invited guests only) a Grom's Division, a Malibu Legends Division, and a Pro Division. There will also be a Celebrity Free Surf hosted by our friends at Oceana.
This year we are proud to Announce Our Partnership with our friends at Oceana. Oceana is the largest international ocean environmental advocacy group dedicated to protecting and restoring our world's oceans. Oceana had caught wind of our event from last year and approached us on how they can get involved to help our cause as well as spread their message. We are very excited to have Oceana on board.
